Dog Owners; let’s talk about this….
So this morning I was walking Chookie who is a 30 pound French bulldog. The leash on the left, a black, thick, strong leash is the one that I use on Chookie because Chookie is pretty strong, even though he’s probably not very high off the ground.
As I came around the corner, a man was walking what looked like a full-blown wolf on something like the purple, dainty, fragile leash to the right in this picture.
The “what looked similar to a full-blown wolf mix” lunged at Chookie and Chookie lunged at him because Chookie doesn’t understand how small he is.
Chookie has lots of confidence (like his mother).
As the guy began to try to pull his wolf mix on his dainty, retractable leash, the wolf mix pulled, and kept pulling out more leash as he tried to lock the lever on his dainty, purple leash.
The wolf mix made one more attempt and the dainty, little leashes, sorry ass latch, snapped. And the wolf mix was then face-to-face with Chookie and I.
Thankfully, the wolf mix moved slow, and his owner was able to grab him in a bear hug and lift him up and walk him away as Chookie and I moved away unscathed .
Now, for those of you who don’t know; these dumb ass, retractable leashes are for animals like Yorkies, Maltese and Shih Tzu’s. I don’t even know if they can hold back a feisty Chihuahua.
Because while you’re busy yo-yo ing your dog in and out, the dog has the opportunity to scroll out a huge length of leash before your (super slow to react because half of you are daydreaming or on your phone while walking Cujo) able to react and lock the lever to stop Cujo regardless of how heavy duty you “believe” your “retractable leash is.
The entire purpose of a “leash” is to keep your dog: away from other dogs, by your side, away from people, and off peoples lawns. Not so you can play Duncan yo-yo games while you walk your untrained dog.
Common sense should tell you that you don’t put wolves Rottweilers, pitbull’s, great Danes, Saint Bernards, huskies, German Shepherd’s, cane, Corso’s, etc. etc. etc. on these fragile ass retractable, leashes. I don’t care if it says heavy duty on the tag. These types of leashes were not made for heavy duty dogs.
Which reminds me of something else, if you’re dog is not well trained and you’re also not strong enough to snatch them up when they’re having a bad day and decide to have humans or other dogs for dinner, perhaps you should consider a lap dog 🥴
I watched an old lady damn near get dragged across a parking lot trying to keep her big, untrained dog from attacking another lady coming out of the porta potty at the park.
Please buy your dog a heavy duty leash if you have a dog that could possibly rip someone’s leg off .
It’s just common sense.,
